About Me and This Blog

Hello, and welcome to my blog! My name is Umineko, and I’m a Japanese woman living in rural Japan.
Having lived abroad, I came to appreciate the quiet charm of my homeland, Japan, its deeply rooted traditions, and the tranquility of everyday life. Here I’ll be sharing glimpses of quiet country living, stories and customs, classic folktales, and social problems that bother me.
If you are exhausted by illogical, pseudo-spiritual populism and a society that exalts self-sacrifice, consider this blog your quiet haven.

I am married to an amazing American husband. We often find ourselves discussing the little differences between life in Japan and the US, particularly San Francisco. We’re always intrigued by those daily dichotomies, from cultural customs to how we take out the trash on garbage day.

↑ Me, near the Ferry Building in San Francisco—one of my favorite places when visiting my husband’s hometown.

I have dry and sensitive skin so I'm always on the lookout for skincare products that work but are gentle on my skin. When I recommend my favorite products or skincare items, they are all things that I have actually bought, tried and love. I don’t do sponsored posts.

I go by the name "Umineko." My fondness for the serene, carefree vibe that comes from being near the seaside is reflected in this name. I'm an introvert who enjoys playing the piano and reading books about history, law, and classical liberalism.

↑ Me at Stonestown Galleria, no filters, no AI, just straight out of the camera. and my bag is adorned with my favorite "Pickles the Frog" charm.

I hope you enjoy my blog as a nice little corner of the internet to slow down and enjoy Japan with me. Thanks for stopping by!

This is the Pickles the Frog charm that I always carry on my bag. I feel so at ease when I touch his arms and legs cuz they are so fluffy and silky.
